Bloggers Like Me

OK, I’m sure you’re probably noticing a pattern here. Everyday is going to have a theme. On Thursdays I will be reviewing various things I’m trying out. I’ve got a few Android apps lined up for you, but in the future it could be any sort of fun little discovery that I find interesting.

Up first is a review of a game I downloaded from the Amazon App Store for my Kindle Fire.

The Treasure Of Mystery Island is a hidden object adventure game. The storyline is honestly, a little cheesy. A pilot, named Alex, is charged with flying his cargo plane across the Atlantic Ocean. He enters a “Bermuda Triangle” type zone and his plane goes down, all while a strange object his girlfriend left with him begins to glow. Alex finds himself stranded on the beach of an uncharted island, and meets a native who sends him on a quest to find the mysterious treasure.

The intrigue of the game lies in finding all of the hidden objects. Unlike a lot of hidden object games, The Treasure of Mystery Island won’t make you feel like you are playing a glorified version of a Highlights find the hidden pictures game. The objects are hidden in pieces, and some of the objects collected must be used in conjunction with items in other scenes to solve problems. There are also mini puzzle games throughout the levels that test other quick thinking skills.

I originally downloaded a free teaser version of the game (because I’m cheap and if I’m going to spend $.99 on an app it better be worth it). By the time I got to the end of the first episode I was clamoring to purchase the entire game. In fact once I got started I stayed up much later than I should at my age, just to try to finish the game. All in all it took me about 8 hours to complete the entire game. And just in case you’re wondering, I didn’t do it all in one go.

The game is complex enough to interest adults, and would be a great diversion for kids as well. It’s an opportunity to build critical thinking skills and build hand eye coordination. It’s also family friendly, because there isn’t any lewd or questionable content. This game is so much fun that even after you’ve found all the items and beaten the game, you’ll want to start over and challenge yourself to beat your own time. There are several in game trophies to be won, based on how quickly you complete certain tasks. Overall this game is a total win, and worth the $.99 price tag and then some. If you’re looking for a fun way to distract yourself  during those long waits at the doctor, or a way to keep your kids quiet on road trips, this is it!

Do you have a favorite app? I’m always looking for suggestions.
