Bloggers Like Me

Happy Monday everyone!  This week Mani Monday is jam packed.  As you know, I’m becoming a big fan of indie polish brand Different dimension. Well, Missi was kind enough to send me a few  samples to review. Before I start with the reviews I want to let you know that I did not pay for these polishes. I have, of course ordered from this shop before. As always, anything I say is my own opinion. If you know me well, you know that nobody can make me say or do anything I don’t want to anyway. ;)   Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get on to the good stuff!

First up, I have two polishes from the Love’s A Punny Thing Collection.

All Red-y In Love is made up of  red, pink, and holographic micro glitter with larger red and pink circle glitter and bright red holographic hearts. It’s sparkly and full of Valentine goodness.  As usual, I have swatched two coats of this polish on it’s own. I like to give you an idea of what each creation looks like without any layering , so that you can decide what other colors in your collection might best suit your style or mood.

Aorta Miss You, But I Don’t! is an incredibly pretty combination of  fuchsia, purple, and holo micro glitter. There are fuchsia circles and garnet hexes and purple hearts. This one is so jam packed with glitter that my husband asked if there was black glitter in it as well. I was a little confused, but then I realized that the spaces between the glitter in the bottle are so small that the empty space just looks like tiny black glitter! I plan on buying a full size bottle of this, because it is just too gorgeous on the nail.

There are four polishes in the Love’s A Punny Thing collection, and after trying these two I’ll definitely be checking out the other two.

Mystic Falls is a polish inspired by The Vampire Diaries.I have to admit that I’ve never seen the show, so I’m not sure what the inspiration behind this polish is. It’s  a black base packed with multi-chrome pigment; so it shifts depending on what light you’re in. I have never had much luck with color shifting polish in the past. They always look so amazing in the bottle, but I never seem to get the same effect on my nails. So obviously I was expecting that this would be another womp womp. But to my surprise it totally came through for me. It shifts from a really pretty pink shimmer, to purple, to a sort of green/  gold/bronze look. It was really hard to capture the full range of color shifting on camera. The bottle shot is the best representation of what you will see when you wear it.

Last, but not least there is Orbital. I was super excited when I saw this included in the samples. I had been eye balling it for a while because it looked so cool. I feel like this is galaxy nails in a bottle. Start off with a black jelly base. Then add in multiple sizes of pink, blue, and purple holographic glitter. The final product makes me want to book a flight into space!  I have to warn you, this stuff eats top coat. It’s weird because the others only required one coat of quick dry topcoat to become perfectly smooth, but I had to pile 3 coats on top of this baby to get it smooth. It’s totally worth it IMO.

Oooh Pixie Dust! I’m not sure about you but something with the name Pixie Dust is NOT something I could resist. So a few moths ago when Zoya released a teaser video about the new polishes they would be releasing I was on pins and needles.

Did you know that Zoya employees are referred to as polish fairies? And they call their loyal customers pixies. So I guess this is a collection named for all of us Zoya fanatics!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, since the video made the polishes look like something akin to the popular caviar manicure, but with sparkle. I thought maybe it would be complicated to apply and only last for a day or two. But the effect was so cool that I was willing to put in the work.

Luckily, these polishes are anything but complicated. They apply just like regular nail polish, but leave a matte, textured, sparkly finish. When I was thinking of a way to describe these, the only thing I could come up with at first was geodes. As a kid I was incredibly drawn to those amazing crystal formations hiding inside of plain old rocks. Again I was sold. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that pixie dust polishes are more like druse quartz for the nails. Druse has been a big trend in jewelry over the past few years, and I love the look of it. Unfortunately it’s pretty pricey. But for the low low price of $9 a bottle you can have the same glitzy finish on all ten of your pretty little digits.

I think that this collection will suit the glitter obsessed and more conservative polish lover alike. These really have a very refined elegant feel. You won’t feel awkward or gaudy while wearing them. There are 6 colors in the collection: Chyna (red), Dahlia (black), Godiva ( beig-y nude), Vespa ( light jade green), Nyx ( twilight/periwinkle blue), and London (grey).  I have Godiva, Vespa, Nyx, and London. Now that I’ve had a chance to wear them, I may just have to get the other two!

The wear on these is pretty great for a matte polish. I think that the texture helps it “grab” the nails better. I usually only get one full day of wear on matte polish without a top coat. If I use a matte topcoat I can usually extend the wear by another day or so. The pixie dust polishes wore for 4 days before I saw any chipping.

The texture was not as grittty as I had anticipated. It is certainly not smooth like a normal polish, but the texture is more like really fine sand paper. It won’t snag on your clothes or in your hair. I also like that using hand creams or lotion didn’t affect the matte finish like it can with some other matte polishes.  And removal was at least 50% easier  than standard glitter. I used my regular soak with remover for 15 seconds routine, and everything glided off my nails easily. There was not lint stuck in anything and no shredding the cotton ball trying to scrub off big chunks of glitter.

So what do you think? Are you wishing for some Pixie Dust? What colors do you like the most?

I didn’t do a Mani Monday last week. I was out of town and I just didn’t feel like rushing to put up a post. So this week you get 2 manis for the price of one! I mean reading this blog is free, so maybe two for free? Whatever. I’m still going through my Big Bang Theory polishes from Different Dimension on etsy. I have to tell you I’m kind of in love with them. This week I’m going to show you Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty and Rock,Paper,Scissors,Lizard,Spock. If you don’t get those references, then get yourself a Netflix account and start waiting at the mailbox for some DVDs.

First up, Soft Kitty Warm Kitty.

Sft Kitty Warm Kitty Uniquelybrandid 1

This one is a beautiful pale grey crelly (jelly cream), with various sizes of white, grey, and holographic glitter scattered throughout. It’s very sheer on it’s own, which I happen to love. All of my pictures show three thin coats, and you can still see my nail very well through the polish. If you want something more opaque, you can always layer it over another gray, white, or nude polish.

I like the way the grey base affects the tone of the glitter in this one. The holo hexes can appear light grey or even white, when sandwiched between layers of this polish. They then stay hidden until the sunlight hits them and the beautiful rainbow is released. I just love little surprises like that.

Next we have Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock.

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 1

This one is my favorite of the four polishes in the collection! It’s a transparent medium blue base filled with teeny white glitter as well as larger white, grey, light green, and light blue glitter. It’s just such a fun polish.  The first time I wore this I layered it over Zoya Tao, a shimmery pearl grey.

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 2

It was such a pretty combination. The slight blue tint of RPSLS  added a little dimension to the look. I even got a compliment on my nails when I took the bean to his check up! :)

I also did a couple of shots showing two coats of RPSLS on its own .

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 3

I love the teeny tiny white satin glitter in this polish. It reminds me of all those times in grade school when someone would spill the holes from the 3 hole punch all over the floor. I imagine the larger white pieces represent the rocks, the shiny grey are  scissors, the light green are lizard, and the pale blue represent Spock. I cannot explain how much I appreciate all the  attention to detail.  The saturation and distribution of the glitter in this polish is perfect. The base helps the glitter to flow evenly onto the nail to get just the right amount of glitter in each coat.  I hate not having enough glitter, but having too much is even worse. This lays out in an even layer across the nail and doesn’t look or feel chunky. It is slightly textured, but not gross feeling, the way some over saturated glitter polishes can be.

So far I’m really happy with my purchases from Different Dimension. I’m really glad that I got such great quality on my first venture into indie polishes. Make sure to come back next week to see the final polish in this collection.

Until then, make sure you stop by the MANICure Monday post on Lipgloss and Binky to see what else is new in polish this week.

Hey errbody! It’s Monday, and thankfully the sun is shining inside and out.  My fellow BLM girl and blog crush, Mimi of Lipgloss and Binky has started an awesome Monday MANIcure blog hop. And since we all know my bloodstream is half polish by now, it’s right up my alley. I didn’t really feel like doing my nails this weekend. And if I don’t feel like doing them the results are always pretty disastrous. So this morning when I was feeling better, I picked out a couple of nice polishes and went to town. Doing my nails is definitely my way of escaping the everyday routine of life for a few minutes. It’s nice to have a little time to think about nothing more than how pretty your nails will look when they’re done!

For this week’s mani, I decided to go green. I used Zoya Bevin as a base with Essie As Gold As It Gets to add a little shimmer. I love that Bevin is sort of a dusty sage color, but it still feels light instead of heavy and too earthy. I hadn’t really given As Gold As It Gets it’s due as an effect top coat. I’ve been so in love with my Shine Of The Times topcoat that I always used it instead. When I found out it has been discontinued I decided to ration it(yeah I’m crazy enough to ration nail polish, what?). The flakes in As Gold As It Gets are slightly smaller and more delicate than the iridescent flakes in Shine, and so they give  more of a  pixie dust feel. I’m already loving this combo!

So what polish are you rocking this week? Do you use your manicure as a means of relaxation? P.S. I am in love with pixlr. It makes more shabby point and shoot pics look almost ready for publication LOL. If you want to be part of the blog hop click that link up there, and get in on the fun. Have a great Monday lovlies!

So we’ve already discussed my errr passion for nail polish. Well, today I was looking for a new manicure combo, and I think I may have discovered a new favorite. As usual, I was having some kind of a time figuring out exactly what colors I wanted to use. I had an unfortunate break on my index finger so I had to cut all my nails down. I needed something kind of fall appropriate (even though I pretty much wear what I want, when I want), and something that would look good on short nails. Of course I thought about leaving my inner magpie behind and not doing a glitter accent. But wouldn’t you know, that sneaky little glitter bug caught up with me?

Anyway I decided to go with On A Trip, a cool sort of deep periwinkle from the Wet N Wild Megalast line. I have to say I wasn’t sure these polishes would live up to the hype, but I’ve worn it before and it really does stay like a champ. It even rivals my beloved Essie polishes in quality, for only a quarter of the price! For my accent nail I decided on my new Essie luxe effects polish in A Stroke Of Brilliance. It’s in the same family of periwinkle, but with a slighter cooler undertone. For added brilliance, I topped it all off with Seche Vite top coat. It’s pricey, but you can’t beat the high shine finish and the extremely fast dry time. With a toddler running  around the house the dry time is key.

And here are the results:

On my nails- Two coats Wet ‘N Wild On A Trip. Accent Nail One Coat Essie A Stroke Of Brilliance over one coat of On A Trip.

So what do you think? Is this a winning combination? What colors are you into this season? Do you pay attention to seasons/trends or just do what you like?

I say enthusiast instead of addict ( even though some people would disagree), because while I have what I consider a nice polish collection, I am not obsessed with it. OK maybe a little obsessed. Anywho, my collection was outgrowing my little storage bins, so my wonderfully kind husband volunteered to build me a nail polish rack. It’s the perfect thing, since we redecorated our bedroom not too long ago. I’ve been trying to make permanent storage solutions, so our lives are a little less college dorm, and a little more young adult sophisticate. I snapped a few picks to give you an idea of what my collection is like.

My new nail polish rack with room for expansion!

I apologize for the grainy pics, but it’s been pretty gloomy around here so I had to use natural and artificial lighting. Isn’t it awesome? I feel like I could start my own nail salon. Pick a color!

A better look at my lovelies

I have between 80-90 colors so far. My two favorite brands are Zoya and Essie, but I have a few OPI and butter London polishes. And of course some other brands that I just couldn’t resist.  Are there any brands or colors you LOVE that I should try? Let me know what you think.
