Honey Sweetheart Uniquelybrandid

Hey dude, what’s up? I hope you don’t mind me calling you dudes. It’s the California girl in me.

I know you’re like, ” Wait, it’s not Monday what are you doing getting all willy nilly with the posting? ” Well I wanted to share something with you because it’s awesome, and I’m kind of obsessed. Also it’s on sale so I figured you might want to check it out.

This past weekend I went on a little trek to Bath and Body Works. I was looking for new candles and a room spray. Well I kind of bombed on the candle front, but I did find a pillow spray and this amazing scent that I am addicted to now.

Disclaimer: I’m not usually a fan of Bath and Body Works fragrances. Well that’s not completely accurate. There have been a few specific scents that I enjoy, but as years go on I just don’t find myself drawn to many of the new scents they bring out. So when I saw the new America’s Sweethearts line I wasn’t expecting much. First of all the packaging is a little tween-y. But don’t let that distract you. I picked up the Honey Sweetheart scent and I just … I don’t know. I’m not a girl who really likes sweet smells. I’m much more into sophisticated florals, water scents, and woods. But for some reason this scent just called to me.

Honey Sweetheart includes notes of honeyed violets and pink sugar. Yes that’s right honey, flowers, and cotton candy. Definitely not my go to kind of fragrance. I’ll admit that I can’t see myself wearing this for a super dressy special occasion. But there is just something lovely and sweet about this that makes it perfect for everyday. It feels especially girly , but not in juvenile way. And the best part  is that the scent isn’t cloying. You won’t be driving people crazy walking down the hall smelling like the dessert booth at your county fair.  It’s the kind of scent that just makes you want to smile.  Ever since I purchased it, I’ve been spraying it on at least 4 times a day. It’s kind of crazy.

There are two other scents in the Sweethearts collection: Daisy Dreamgirl and Berry Flirt. When I  was in the store they were buy 2 get 2 free, so I picked up the Daisy Dreamgirl  fragrance spray and body wash as well. It’s a very refreshing and subtle floral scent, and I enjoy it. But Honey Sweetheart has captured my heart. Right now you can get these Buy 3 get 2 free on the Bath and Body Works website. I’m not sure if these are limited edition or not, but I’d snatch them up while you can!

Have you ever been surprised by a fragrance? What are your go to feel good smells?

Happy Monday everyone!  This week Mani Monday is jam packed.  As you know, I’m becoming a big fan of indie polish brand Different dimension. Well, Missi was kind enough to send me a few  samples to review. Before I start with the reviews I want to let you know that I did not pay for these polishes. I have, of course ordered from this shop before. As always, anything I say is my own opinion. If you know me well, you know that nobody can make me say or do anything I don’t want to anyway. ;)   Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s get on to the good stuff!

First up, I have two polishes from the Love’s A Punny Thing Collection.

All Red-y In Love is made up of  red, pink, and holographic micro glitter with larger red and pink circle glitter and bright red holographic hearts. It’s sparkly and full of Valentine goodness.  As usual, I have swatched two coats of this polish on it’s own. I like to give you an idea of what each creation looks like without any layering , so that you can decide what other colors in your collection might best suit your style or mood.

All Red-y UniquelyBrandid

Aorta Miss You, But I Don’t! is an incredibly pretty combination of  fuchsia, purple, and holo micro glitter. There are fuchsia circles and garnet hexes and purple hearts. This one is so jam packed with glitter that my husband asked if there was black glitter in it as well. I was a little confused, but then I realized that the spaces between the glitter in the bottle are so small that the empty space just looks like tiny black glitter! I plan on buying a full size bottle of this, because it is just too gorgeous on the nail.

Aorta Miss UniquelyBrandid

There are four polishes in the Love’s A Punny Thing collection, and after trying these two I’ll definitely be checking out the other two.

Mystic Falls is a polish inspired by The Vampire Diaries.I have to admit that I’ve never seen the show, so I’m not sure what the inspiration behind this polish is. It’s  a black base packed with multi-chrome pigment; so it shifts depending on what light you’re in. I have never had much luck with color shifting polish in the past. They always look so amazing in the bottle, but I never seem to get the same effect on my nails. So obviously I was expecting that this would be another womp womp. But to my surprise it totally came through for me. It shifts from a really pretty pink shimmer, to purple, to a sort of green/  gold/bronze look. It was really hard to capture the full range of color shifting on camera. The bottle shot is the best representation of what you will see when you wear it.

Mystic Falls UniquelyBrandid

Last, but not least there is Orbital. I was super excited when I saw this included in the samples. I had been eye balling it for a while because it looked so cool. I feel like this is galaxy nails in a bottle. Start off with a black jelly base. Then add in multiple sizes of pink, blue, and purple holographic glitter. The final product makes me want to book a flight into space!  I have to warn you, this stuff eats top coat. It’s weird because the others only required one coat of quick dry topcoat to become perfectly smooth, but I had to pile 3 coats on top of this baby to get it smooth. It’s totally worth it IMO.

Did any of these tickle your fancy?  Be sure to check out all the other amazing offerings from Different Dimension.

And of course, be sure to get on over to the MANICure Monday link up to get all of your weekly nail inspiration!

Oooh Pixie Dust! I’m not sure about you but something with the name Pixie Dust is NOT something I could resist. So a few moths ago when Zoya released a teaser video about the new polishes they would be releasing I was on pins and needles.

Did you know that Zoya employees are referred to as polish fairies? And they call their loyal customers pixies. So I guess this is a collection named for all of us Zoya fanatics!

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, since the video made the polishes look like something akin to the popular caviar manicure, but with sparkle. I thought maybe it would be complicated to apply and only last for a day or two. But the effect was so cool that I was willing to put in the work.

Luckily, these polishes are anything but complicated. They apply just like regular nail polish, but leave a matte, textured, sparkly finish. When I was thinking of a way to describe these, the only thing I could come up with at first was geodes. As a kid I was incredibly drawn to those amazing crystal formations hiding inside of plain old rocks. Again I was sold. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that pixie dust polishes are more like druse quartz for the nails. Druse has been a big trend in jewelry over the past few years, and I love the look of it. Unfortunately it’s pretty pricey. But for the low low price of $9 a bottle you can have the same glitzy finish on all ten of your pretty little digits.

I think that this collection will suit the glitter obsessed and more conservative polish lover alike. These really have a very refined elegant feel. You won’t feel awkward or gaudy while wearing them. There are 6 colors in the collection: Chyna (red), Dahlia (black), Godiva ( beig-y nude), Vespa ( light jade green), Nyx ( twilight/periwinkle blue), and London (grey).  I have Godiva, Vespa, Nyx, and London. Now that I’ve had a chance to wear them, I may just have to get the other two!

L to R: Godiva, London, Vespa, Nyx

L to R: Godiva, London, Vespa, Nyx

The wear on these is pretty great for a matte polish. I think that the texture helps it “grab” the nails better. I usually only get one full day of wear on matte polish without a top coat. If I use a matte topcoat I can usually extend the wear by another day or so. The pixie dust polishes wore for 4 days before I saw any chipping.

with flash L to Right: London, Godiva, Vespa, Nyx (2 coats)

with flash L to Right: London, Godiva, Vespa, Nyx (2 coats)

no flash L to R : London, Godiva, Vespa, Nyx

The texture was not as grittty as I had anticipated. It is certainly not smooth like a normal polish, but the texture is more like really fine sand paper. It won’t snag on your clothes or in your hair. I also like that using hand creams or lotion didn’t affect the matte finish like it can with some other matte polishes.  And removal was at least 50% easier  than standard glitter. I used my regular soak with remover for 15 seconds routine, and everything glided off my nails easily. There was not lint stuck in anything and no shredding the cotton ball trying to scrub off big chunks of glitter.

So what do you think? Are you wishing for some Pixie Dust? What colors do you like the most?

Hodie Hi! I’m back again. This past weekend we went to Target to pick up some things we needed around the house.  And, as usual, we ended up coming out with a bunch of stuff that wasn’t on the list.  So I thought, why not share my extra purchases with all of you?! I know some people aren’t into the whole “haul” thing, but I think they’re a bunch of fun. The second best part of going shopping is coming home and sharing what you got with friends and family. Since I moved away from home, I haven’t really been able to force invite my family to share in my joy.

My small haul

While we were in the baby department hunting down diapers, I decided to check out the kids’ clothes. Big mistake. I was really only looking for training pants, because it’s time to start potty training the bean. He really loves Spider-man (or Sidah-man as he calls him), so when I saw tiny little Spider-man undies I couldn’t help myself. He also needs a new pair of Spider-man jammies. He wears the pair he has now every single time they come out of the dryer. Unfortunately there were none to be had. We did find a pretty awesome Spider-man hoodie.  And a Spider-man shirt that was on clearance for only $2.70! Score! So now the little man is set with Spider-man gear until his next growth spurt. And because I am a super cool mom, we got a tiny bottle of Mr. Bubble in the dollar section. Was I the only one jealous of the kids with Mr. Bubble as a kid? I always had to use grown up bubble bath. None of them had a funny looking guy made of bubbles as a mascot. As you can tell I had a totally dark childhood. >_> We also picked up some Suave for kids de-tangling spray. I keep trying new things to tame the bean’s curly mop. He’s not a huge fan of hair combing, so I thought this might help make grooming less stressful.

As a momma you've got to treat yo' self!

As a momma you’ve got to treat yo’ self!

I also got a few mommy treats while we were out. I saw an article on Nouveau Cheap a couple of weeks ago saying that Target had started selling Pacifica products. I had seen their bath and body products on Sephora’s website, but I’m not one to buy things like that without being able to smell them  first. I decided to try out the  coconut water facial cleansing cloths and a set with trial sized products in the blood orange scent. There will definitely be more on those later. I also endeavored to be a tiny bit more budget conscious and try out one of Target’s teas. I’m not a huge tea drinker, but I really enjoy the Tazo Passion tea. Well imagine my delight when I found an Archer farms tea just like it that was organic and almost $2.00 cheaper!

Yup, Target got me once again! It seems like every time I go into that place I find something else I didn’t know I needed. How about you? Did you get any treats this weekend? If so please share! I absolutely LOVE seeing what other people pick up in the course of errand running.

Be on the lookout for my review of the Pacifica stuff and the tea. I’ll let you know if you should get pulled into the T-zone too! Hope you’re all having a fantastic week!

I didn’t do a Mani Monday last week. I was out of town and I just didn’t feel like rushing to put up a post. So this week you get 2 manis for the price of one! I mean reading this blog is free, so maybe two for free? Whatever. I’m still going through my Big Bang Theory polishes from Different Dimension on etsy. I have to tell you I’m kind of in love with them. This week I’m going to show you Soft Kitty, Warm Kitty and Rock,Paper,Scissors,Lizard,Spock. If you don’t get those references, then get yourself a Netflix account and start waiting at the mailbox for some DVDs.

First up, Soft Kitty Warm Kitty.

Sft Kitty Warm Kitty Uniquelybrandid 1

This one is a beautiful pale grey crelly (jelly cream), with various sizes of white, grey, and holographic glitter scattered throughout. It’s very sheer on it’s own, which I happen to love. All of my pictures show three thin coats, and you can still see my nail very well through the polish. If you want something more opaque, you can always layer it over another gray, white, or nude polish.

Soft Kitty Warm Kitty Uniquelybrandid 2

I like the way the grey base affects the tone of the glitter in this one. The holo hexes can appear light grey or even white, when sandwiched between layers of this polish. They then stay hidden until the sunlight hits them and the beautiful rainbow is released. I just love little surprises like that.

Next we have Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock.

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 1

This one is my favorite of the four polishes in the collection! It’s a transparent medium blue base filled with teeny white glitter as well as larger white, grey, light green, and light blue glitter. It’s just such a fun polish.  The first time I wore this I layered it over Zoya Tao, a shimmery pearl grey.

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 2

It was such a pretty combination. The slight blue tint of RPSLS  added a little dimension to the look. I even got a compliment on my nails when I took the bean to his check up! :)

I also did a couple of shots showing two coats of RPSLS on its own .

RPSLS Uniquelybrandid 3

I love the teeny tiny white satin glitter in this polish. It reminds me of all those times in grade school when someone would spill the holes from the 3 hole punch all over the floor. I imagine the larger white pieces represent the rocks, the shiny grey are  scissors, the light green are lizard, and the pale blue represent Spock. I cannot explain how much I appreciate all the  attention to detail.  The saturation and distribution of the glitter in this polish is perfect. The base helps the glitter to flow evenly onto the nail to get just the right amount of glitter in each coat.  I hate not having enough glitter, but having too much is even worse. This lays out in an even layer across the nail and doesn’t look or feel chunky. It is slightly textured, but not gross feeling, the way some over saturated glitter polishes can be.

So far I’m really happy with my purchases from Different Dimension. I’m really glad that I got such great quality on my first venture into indie polishes. Make sure to come back next week to see the final polish in this collection.

Until then, make sure you stop by the MANICure Monday post on Lipgloss and Binky to see what else is new in polish this week.

It’s New Year’s Eve! Do you have any fancy plans? Please, do tell! I have no plans, and will probably be in bed before midnight. The hubby isn’t feeling well. :(

But it is New Year’s Eve, so I decided to do a fun glittery party manicure. The best part is it’s super easy, and dries fast too. So if you’re getting ready and don’t have much time, you can do this on your way out the door with no fear of smudges. I started with a base of Essie Penny Talk. It’s a really beautiful rose gold/copper metallic. It’s opaque in one coat, and dries almost instantly. I think it’s considered a “chrome” finish, but it’s not mirrored. the finish is flat and semi matte. You can think of it as more of a brushed metallic. I decided to top it off with a coat of OPI The Living Daylights. I thought the copper, teal, champagne, and silver glitter would really pop against Penny Talk. The way the tonal glitter shows up against the base really gives the whole look dimension.  I have to say I’m pretty pleased with this combination. I think it would add a nice bit of glitz to a simple chic outfit.

I hope you all have a wonderful time tonight. Be safe and ring in the New Year with style!

Today’s post is late, I know. Tomorrow is Christmas and I’ve been in a relaxed mood. The hubs is off from work for the next few days and we’re just getting ready to celebrate! I had a heck of a time trying to think of something to do with my nails this week. I was going to do something red, gold, or green; but nothing was to my liking. So I went back to my colored tips. For some reason, I just seem really into them right now This time I used my favorite, Essie Shine Of The Times (discontinued) and Zoya Wednesday. Wednesday was a Christmas gift from my mom, so that makes it an automatic Christmas color. I don’t think you’ll be able to see what an amazing polish Shine is in these pictures. It was part of the luxe effects collection. It’s an iridescent flake glitter and it just gives any other polish a fairy/ mermaid like feel.

Anyway, on with the show!

Essie Shine Of The Times Zoya Wednesday

You can see the flakes best over Wednesday on the accent nail

I am so happy to be celebrating Christmas. It’s my favorite holiday of the year! I hope you are all enjoying your family and friends. And I hope we each take some quiet time, away from all the events and presents, to reflect on the gift God has given us all this Christmas. So much love He poured out on mankind in the form of a baby, that would someday become our Savior. We are truly blessed.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Ok guys I’m going to level with you. Last week was one of those weeks when nothing turns out quite the way you think it will. It was just super long. I must have tried 4 or 5 different ideas for this week’s mani and none of them turned out. So finally I thought let’s just do something … anything wintery. So that’s what this is. I used Essie Mint Candy Apple  and Finger Paints Papier Mache. I did some dots to make it look like snow and some sequins, rhinestones and a snowflake or two to finish it off.  We’re going to call this one a win just for getting it done. :)   I promise next week I’ll be more inspired!

Don’t forget to hop on over and link up with the MANICure Monday party. This week hosted by Lynn.

Woop Woop! How are you doing this fine Monday? Did you know there are only 22 days left until Christmas? Yup that’s right. As promised I am bringing you a holiday appropriate Mani Monday every Monday in December, right up to Christmas Eve.

I wanted to get things started slowly, so I decided to do a look that is a little more low key holiday. There’s no red or green. No holly, presents or trees either. This one would be nice for holiday parties or even New Year’s Eve. See how I’m helping you out here? It’s not even Christmas yet and I’ve got the new year covered for you! I am a good friend. YUP.

Since I’m always thinking of ways to improve my ideas, I’ll give you a few tips. First, if you use tape as a guide for your lines make sure to stick and peel the tape on the back of your hand a few times to make it less tacky. This will help to make sure your polish doesn’t peel under the tape. Also remove the tape as soon as you finish creating the line. If you let the tape sit while you color is drying on top- you guessed it- your polish will peel. I used Essie Beyond Cozy to make the dots on my nails, but you could use small rhinestones, miniature pearls, or even those tiny caviar balls in a metallic finish to give the look a bit more edge.  Also I sued a toothpick to create the dots, but a small dotting tool would probably make crisper circles. If you go the toothpick route, make sure you have enough polish on the end of the toothpick to leave small drops of polish behind. You don’t want to actually touch your nail with the toothpick, just leave behind a very tiny “puddle” of polish.

So now that I’ve used all the words in the world let’s get to the actual look! ^_^

From L to R: Essie Beyond Cozy, Zoya Ziv, Zoya Raven

Apply two coats of black polish to the nails. Allow this polish to dry for 15-20 before moving on to Step Two.

Using a piece of scotch tape, cover 2/3 of your nail. Using a gold polish paint the remaining 1/3 of your nail to create a stripe on one side of the nail. Make sure the edge that lies against the section you are covering in the gold is securely pressed against the nail to create a sharp, defined line.

Along the border between the black and gold polishes, apply small dots of silver glitter polish to the nail using a toothpick or small dotting tool.

After allowing the polish to dry for 5-10 minutes, you’re ready for a super shiny thick top coat. Voila! Fancy pants nails fit for any party on your list.

Just another EXTREME close-up of the look. Dots and all.

There you have it. I hope you like the look. If you try it out, let me know. I’d love to see some more variations.

Whew! It’s Monday again already. Last week was so nice with the 4 day weekend, and it still went by too fast. I hope you all had an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving. We were blessed to be invited to a friend’s home , and we had a lovely time. Plus, we got leftovers without having to do all of the cooking!

I loved my last mani so much. It was just the right touch of sparkle , and the french tips were really easy. So I thought I’d do a slightly different take on it this week. Not sure how I feel about the outcome. To be honest I was a little rushed so I think it would have turned out better if I’d taken more time with it. Anywho, I did another french tip, this time with dots And because I know a lot of other ladies had been skeptical of doing a leopard print on their own I decide to do that design on my accent nail. it’s really so easy, and it looks better when you are a little messy with it! So here we go with a step by step pictorial on how to achieve the look.

All the polishes you’ll need. From left to right: OPI Pearl of Wisdom, Zoya Dove, OPI Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs., Zoya Avery, OPI Strawberry Margarita, Zoya Raven, Butter London P.D. Quick Topcoat

Step 1: Paint 2 coats of base color on each nail. For french I used OPI Pearl of Wisdom. For the accent nails I used Zoya Dove.

Step 2: Paint your French tip and apply contrasting dots along the smile line. For the tips I used OPI Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs. For Dots I used OPI Strawberry Margarita (pictured) and Zoya Dove (see following picture)

Step 3: Apply randomly sized dots to accent nail. I sued 3 colors here. OPI Mimosas for Mr. & Mrs., OPI Strawberry Margarita, and Zoya Avery. After allowing French tips to dry completely add quick dry top coat. Do not apply topcoat to accent nails.

Step4: with a toothpick or nail art brush out line the dots on your accent nail with black polish to create the leopard look. These do not need to be crisp sharp lines. In fact they should be more abstract to mirror the natural pattern of a leopard/cheetah’s coat. Think squiggly ‘c’ shapes.

Step 5: Once your accent nail has completely dried, add a quick dry topcoat. As you can see in the picture, I rushed ahead and smudged my leopard print slightly when adding topcoat.

And there you have it! What do you think? Do you have ideas on how to improve it?

As always I’m part ot the MANICure Monday blog hop. I’m telling you, you NEED to get in on this! These ladies will inspire you with their creative and innovative manicures. This week the link up is being hosted on LA Lynn’s blog. Go get some :)
